Southern Ocean Bakehouse Pop-Up Bake Sale — Saturday 15 November 2025
We’re thrilled to welcome our great friends Darren Purchese and Cath Claringbold to Flinders Island this November for a very special Bake Sale Pop-Up at The Larder, Flinders Wharf.
On Saturday 15 November, Darren and Cath will be launching their new venture, Southern Ocean Bakehouse, right here on the island - a beautiful collaboration celebrating the best of Tasmanian produce, creativity, and craftsmanship. The bakehouse will also feature our very own Jane Grylls, whose passion for local ingredients and flavour storytelling has long been part of The Larder’s heart.
Together, they’ve created a stunning menu of sweet and savoury bakes that capture the flavours of Flinders - from honey and wallaby to rhubarb, fennel, and Furneaux Distillery whisky. Even better, Darren and Cath are leaving us with a few Larder-specific recipes that we’ll continue to bake and share through the summer season.
The Pop-Up Menu
SWEET
Island Finger Bun – vego, nf, contains gluten
Light and fluffy sweet bread with lemon & fennel-scented icing. Finished with crystallised saltbush, fennel, lemon zest, and a touch of island creativity.
Flinders Island Canelé – vego, nf, contains honey, gluten & alcohol
Beeswax-baked honey custard with Furneaux Distillery Whisky.
Basque Cheesecake with Rhubarb Compote – vego, nf, gf
Smooth and dark-baked cheesecake with a bright rhubarb fruit topping.
Daz’s Ultratender Chocolate Cake with Orange & Whisky – vego, nf, contains honey, gluten & alcohol
Moist and tender chocolate layer cake with brown sugar Swiss meringue buttercream, orange and whisky-honey syrup, and a glossy chocolate glaze.
SAVOURY
Flinders Island Filled Focaccia – vego option, nf, contains gluten
Light and airy focaccia with island inclusions, Bruny Island cheese, silverbeet, and the option to add tender wallaby steak.
Furneaux Scallop Pithivier – nf, contains gluten & seafood
Homemade flaky puff pastry filled with luxurious, creamy Furneaux scallops.
Carrot & Zucchini Spiral Tart – nf, contains gluten & honey
Caper and honey butter pastry layered with ribbons of carrot and zucchini, baked until golden and cut into wedges.
